About Us

Who We Are

"BUFFALO BOAT HIRE & TOURS IS A PROUDLYABORIGINALLY & LOCALLY OWNED AND OPERATED BUSINESS BASED IN DARWIN, NORTHERN TERRITORY"

Our Story

Buffalo Boat Hire & Tours was born from a deep connection to the Northern Territory—its waterways, landscapes, and culture. Founded in 2021, the business began as Buffalo Boat Hire, offering premium access to the Top End’s pristine waterways. As demand grew, the vision evolved to include private luxury 4WD tours alongside premium boat hire.

Our purpose is simple: to deliver exclusive, thoughtfully curated experiences that allow guests to explore the Northern Territory in comfort, privacy, and authenticity. From seamless boat hire in the northern suburbs to tailored 4WD journeys through some of the Territory’s most iconic regions, every detail is considered.

Proudly locally owned and family operated, Buffalo Boat Hire & Tours blends adventure with genuine local insight—offering a more meaningful way to experience the Top End, away from crowds and compromise.

Director

Meet Wade

Wade is a proud Territorian, born and raised in the Northern Territory, with a lifelong connection to the land and sea. His passion for fishing, exploring, and sharing the beauty of the Top End is the foundation of Buffalo Boat Hire & Tours.

With strong ancestral ties to the Agalda people of Araru, West Arnhem Land and the Cobourg Peninsula, culture plays a central role in everything Wade does. With the blessing of respected elders, the business proudly incorporates Iwaidja language into its fleet, naming vessels after marine animals as a tribute to ancestral ties to the sea and living culture.

Alongside his partner Jamie-Lee, Wade is raising their six children immersed in the outdoors, fishing, crabbing, spearing, and exploring the Territory whenever possible. This family-led lifestyle, combined with Wade’s extensive local knowledge, shapes every experience offered.

Meet Reuben

Raised in the Northern Territory and calling it home for over 50 years, Reuben is a true Territorian. Having experienced Cyclone Tracy while living in Darwin, he brings a unique firsthand perspective on the region’s history, landscapes and people.

With more than 25 years in the tourism industry, Reuben has guided visitors across some of the Territory’s most iconic destinations, including Kakadu, Litchfield, Katherine Gorge, Kings Canyon and Uluru-Kata Tjuta. Having worked closely with wildlife, spending years running boat tours in Kakadu, guided jumping crocodile tours on the Adelaide River, and even led tours on Tasmania’s rugged west coast.

A proud Aboriginal Australian with strong connections throughout Western Arnhem Land and Kakadu, Reuben shares authentic local knowledge, cultural insight and stories that bring each destination to life. Friendly, experienced and passionate about the Top End, he loves helping visitors experience the Northern Territory the way locals know it.
